Seven Chakras

Improve Your Mood Instantly with Chakra Cleansing

Taking time to recharge and reset your body, mind, and Spirit is essential to overall health and wellness. Everyone has different methods for releasing the negative energy that naturally accumulates throughout the day: some enjoy taking a hot bath with lavender salts before bedtime while others detail their hopes and aspirations in a journal so they can stay on-track to reach their healing goals.

If you find that your healing rituals are becoming less effective, you may need to spend some time cleansing your chakras so you can get your entire being back on track.

We have seven primary energy centers in our bodies called chakras. Since each chakra correlates to a body part, there are specific ailments and dysfunctions that result if it is blocked. Any time that we have a physical issue, it weakens us emotionally. By cleansing your chakras and releasing stale energy from the body, you breathe new energy into the area of your body that is struggling for air.

And just as each chakra corresponds to a physical body part, they also have a powerful influence over our mental and emotional well-being. The clearing of energies past their prime will help you work through fears and emotions that can safely be freed.

Cleanse your chakras and improve your mood

You can learn to cleanse your own chakras in a quick and effective chakra cleansing meditation.

A grounding meditation practice

Focus on your root chakra and planting it firmly in the ground. Feel the energy of the Earth as your physical body and Spirit connect to Mother Earth. Suddenly, you’ll feel energy radiate up through your body and your mind.

Focus on opening your chakras

After completing your grounding meditation, you can begin opening each of your chakras, one by one. You’ll want to start with the root chakra.

To do this, visualize each one opening. Since each of the seven chakras has a specific color associated with it, a calming way to focus on each opening think about each as your favorite flower in one of the seven colors.

As you focus your energy on a particular chakra, imagine that flower — in its corresponding color — blooming.

Beginning with the root chakra, think about a red infant flower bud that is tightly bound, protecting its delicate petals from the harsh world on the outside. As you look at the young flower, you can tell that there are hundreds of petals on the inside that are ready to break free from the confines of the shell. Suddenly, you notice movement and the flower opens up into full bloom, radiating beauty and life into everything surrounding it.

Once your root chakra has opened, you can move onto the next. As you work through each chakra up to the crown, imagine each one blooming in their corresponding color.

Root chakra (red)

Sacral chakra (orange)

Solar plexus chakra (yellow)

Heart chakra (green)

Throat chakra (blue)

Third eye chakra (violet)

Crown chakra (gold)

If you aren’t a flower or plant enthusiast, you can visualize doors opening or clouds parting. This entire opening meditation should take you approximately 28-42 minutes, spending 4-6 minutes to open each chakra.

Breathe energy into each chakra

Going back to the start of your grounding meditation, refocus on the energy that you pulled from Mother Earth. It is now time to use this energy to flood each of your chakras with life, like water racing downstream in a river. As you visualize the water running through your root chakra, observe how it flushes away impurities and stale energies.

Move onto your sacral chakra after you feel your root chakra has been cleansed. At the end, you will have seven streams of energy flowing through each of your seven chakras.

Return the energy source to Mother Earth

When you feel that your chakras as cleansed and feel it is time to turn off the energy flow, start to pull back on the energy streams. Just like you would turn off a running faucet or unplug a lamp, the energy will fall back into the Earth quickly.

Return each of your chakras to their resting state

After the flow of energy has been returned to Earth, it’s time to close each of your chakras. While we aren’t closing chakras entirely — completely closed chakras are not healthy or sustainable for anyone and completely open chakras will drain your own energy — it is important to dial down the energy on each.

Just like you would turn down the volume on a radio or adjust the thermostat in your home, adjust the energy level on each chakra. You will start with at the crown chakra and move your way down to the root. Adjust the level until you feel comfortable: too low and you may feel a sensation of heaviness; too high and you may feel nervous or anxious suddenly.

This process of adjusting your chakras is unique to each individual. There is no wrong or right way to cleanse your chakras. What feels right to you may feel wrong to someone else. Each person is different.

To find out what feels “right,” pay close attention to your emotions, feelings, and physical state as you move through the cleansing process. Over time, you will observe things that repeat and sense subtle energies. There’s a reason why it’s called “meditation practice” — practice makes perfect.

Three Ways to Find (and Keep) Your Soulmate

They say love makes the world go round, and there’s no time like February to bring that loving feeling into sharp focus. From love songs and love poems to romantic books and movies, tales of true love are bound to color your world this month and bring up some soul-searching questions.  Have you been seeking love without success? Do you worry that love is all about luck?  Do you believe a soulmate is waiting for you? And if so, how do you go about finding that elusive person? It may be time to re-examine your beliefs about love.

Does it fall like rain from heaven into your waiting arms as the songs suggest? Or is there some work you can do to bring love home and keep it burning bright?

Most people admit that finding and maintaining a healthy and lasting love relationship is their most difficult task in life. I believe that finding a loving life partner becomes easier when you know something about energy healing. In my work as a spiritual teacher and energy healer, I’ve helped many people with the healing they needed to accomplish before the love they hoped for could enter their lives. Whenever two people interact on any level, whether they are having a friendly chat or communicating with glances and body language, there is an exchange of energy between them. Learning how this energy works can help you attract more loving and positive relationships.

Your healthy love life begins with a balanced second chakra energy center. A healthy second chakra is a fertile place—an engine of creative possibility that allows inspiration to flow through the body. As the seat of the inner child and emotions, this center also hosts your creative and generative impulse. These aspects of the second chakra reflect the wholeness of the individual, which is why they are so important to forming happy relationships with others. Energy healing can make sure your second chakra is clear and balanced and thus the energy you bring to any relationship is positive.

Check out these 3 ways I suggest to make sure you are ready to begin or to nurture a healthy and happy love relationship:

1. If You Want to Attract Love, Be More Loving

In energy medicine you learn that what you put out into the world will be reflected back to you. Light attracts light, so if you want more love, or stronger love, you need to love more. This doesn’t mean being more needy or clingy. True love is never restrictive, but allows for change and growth. To be more loving means to be more accepting and open, loving your partner, your friend, your mother, for who they are, rather than who you think they should be.  Being more loving can also include opening yourself up more. Allow your fourth chakra, your heart center, to open a little wider and let your love shine forth. While it’s true that opening yourself up to love does make you more vulnerable, the rewards are worth any risks. Being more loving and open with other people also paves the way for you to be able to experience Divine love, which is the purest love in the universe.

2. Build a Strong Foundation, Learn to Love Yourself First

You’ve heard this truth many times before, which is why you might be overlooking the most obvious factor in bringing new love into your life. Loving yourself is a precursor to being able to love or be loved by someone else. Forgive yourself for your mistakes, know that you are worthy of love, and that you are indeed enough with or without a romantic partner. In order to believe that someone else will love you, you must first love the magnificent human being that you are. No matter what self-doubt, low self-esteem or insecurity you may have suffered from in the past, the time has come to make a fresh start. Being open to love begins with a firm base of self-awareness and self-knowledge. Know, accept, and love who you are so that you can offer the same welcoming acceptance to others. It’s the secret to all good relationships. If you love yourself and feel worthy of being loved, you will break down the walls to your heart.

3. Step Out into the World with Love

What would your soulmate be doing right now? How would that person be interacting with the world? Would they be volunteering at the animal shelter? Would they be coaching kids’ basketball at the community center? Would they be driving seniors to the neighborhood health clinic? Is that your way of being in the world, too? Giving back and serving others is the way to be a loving person yourself and to meet people who have the love quotient you are seeking. Be the love you want to find. To attract love you will need to project love into the world. Because creating relationships takes energy and work, you can turn the focus of your love outward into the world by taking action and doing things you love. These activities will fuel you with positive energy and help you shine as you use your unique gifts. This radiant new you will begin attracting all kinds of new loving relationships.

“How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.” –Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Have you moved closer to becoming the most loving, accepting, and giving person you can be? Is your energy positive and focused now that you know you are ready to experience love on every level? The more love you can give, the more you can receive, and the more enjoyment you will experience.

Finding and keeping a soulmate depends on being the very kind of open-hearted, loving person you are seeking.  Be a beacon of love for yourself and others and you’ll soon find the joy those love songs are talking about!

Using a Pendulum to Tune-Up Your Chakras

One of the most remarkable tools of energy healing is the pendulum. If you think of a pendulum as the hypnotist’s pocket watch swinging back and forth or the driving mechanism of a grandfather clock, you have part of the picture. A pendulum is simply a weight suspended from a fixed point so it can move freely—back and forth or around and around.

In energy healing, this small, symmetrical object hanging by a cord can be used to increase your sensitivity to energy flow by acting as an amplifier, helping you access the unified field, as well as your higher self. A pendulum can help you find the location of a chakra energy center and check its healthy activity level.

When you’re first learning to use a pendulum, I recommend one made of wood (preferably beechwood) with a conical shape. This will be best for giving you the information you’re looking for from chakras without distortions. Carry your new pendulum around with you for a few days in a little pouch or your pocket so it begins to resonate with your energy. The first step in using your pendulum is to bless it. You’ll want to do this before each use. For example, you

might ask for your higher self and all the higher beings that are prepared to assist you to influence the movement of the pendulum as you work. It is the movement of the pendulum that will guide you to the information you seek, so you will want to be sure you are open and available to assistance both from your own higher self and your spirit guides.

When you’re ready, your pendulum can provide valuable feedback for good health when you use it to check chakras, which are focal points of energy in the human energy field. The pendulum amplifies energy and can help you locate and gain information about the chakra’s functioning. Here’s where the chakras are located:

  • First Chakra – at the base of the spine
  • Second Chakra – halfway between the first chakra and the waist
  • Third Chakra – halfway between the navel and the breastbone
  • Fourth Chakra – in the center of the chest
  • Fifth Chakra – in the middle of the throat
  • Sixth Chakra – between the eyebrows
  • Seventh Chakra – at the top of the head

Begin by having your subject lie down on her back, on a surface at the best height for you to stand in a straight and comfortable posture beside her. Kitchen counters are ideal! With your posture straight and your arm extended a little forward from your body, suspend the pendulum over each energy center, about four inches above the chakras. As the pendulum starts to move, note the direction of its movement. Is it clockwise, counterclockwise, elliptical (irregular), or not moving at all? Write this down, and then move up to the next chakra.

Here are a few ways to interpret the meaning of the pendulum’s movements:

  1. Clockwise movement indicates that the chakra is open and the feelings governed by it are well balanced and full.
  2. Counterclockwise movement indicates possible blocked energy or negative experiences with the feelings related to that chakra. Whether the circle is larger or smaller also tells you whether the energy is flowing nicely or restricted.
  3. An elliptical swing indicates a right- or left-side imbalance of energy flow in the body, perhaps due to overusing either the right masculine side or the left nurturing side.

But what if there is no movement at all? This might indicate that you’re holding the pendulum above the wrong place on the body. If you try again and are sure you are in the correct location, it can indicate that blockage is present.

The size of the chakra is not the size of the circle that the pendulum makes; rather, the size of the pendulum’s circle is a function of your energy field combined with both that of the pendulum and the subject.

It’s important to remember that the health of your own energy field has a direct impact on your effectiveness in reading the other person’s energy centers. Don’t be discouraged when you first begin, if you find that you can’t even figure out where the chakras are. Practice, practice, practice. It won’t be long before you’ll start to see results.

Discover the Secrets of Chakra Wisdom!

What do you want to change in your life?

Are you overwhelmed and looking for more peace? Are you unsure of your future or which life path is right for you? Are you seeking healing, spiritual enlightenment, or deeper satisfaction? Chakras are your secret weapons against living a life full of discontentment, disconnection, and fear. With the wisdom gained through opening these powerful energy centers, you can transform your behaviors and attitude to better live in alignment with your higher self and true soul purpose, and become the light bearer you were meant to be.

The Solution to Your Problems

Nearly everyone is searching for something these days. Many of my students come to me feeling generally underwhelmed with their careers or their relationships or their sense of purpose, and they don’t understand why they just can’t seem to get out of their slump or improve a certain aspect of their life. Others have an illness or injury that refuses to respond to traditional medicine, or something intangible like depression or weight gain or insomnia. Does this sound like you? Whatever particular problem is plaguing you, when you unlock the wisdom of your chakras, you’ll find the key to solving it so you can be on your way to a healthier and happier future.

In Sanskrit, the word chakra means wheel or vortex, and that’s what a chakra is: a spinning wheel or vortex of energy, pulsing and pushing energy in and out between your personal energy field and the universal field that interpenetrates all things. This energy exchange is necessary for your health as that new fresh energy cleans, balances, and nourishes you. Without it, your chakras and your energy field become weakened as does your psyche and body. Healthy chakras keep energy moving, therefore keeping you healthy.

Energetic Nourishment

Think of it this way: your energy field needs nourishment just like your body does, and the universal field provides that necessary food. When your chakras become blocked or distorted, you don’t get enough nourishment from the universal field, and just like when you don’t eat enough good food, your energy plummets, you become mentally foggy, your emotions go haywire, and you can eventually get sick.

Energetic nourishment is especially important because what happens in your energy field is reflected in your body. That’s how energy healing works: when you heal the energy field, you also heal the body. By correcting distortions in your chakras, energy healing can heal anything from headache to heartbreak, from diabetes to a broken ankle, from obesity to cancer. That’s how I was led to energy medicine: a cancer diagnosis that woke me up and helped me discover my true calling as a spiritual teacher.

My First Energy Healing Experience

I was a hard-charging attorney in my twenties, climbing the corporate ladder without regard for my health. I was addicted to the alcohol and pills I’d used to try to bury an abusive childhood, and I suffered from depression, eating disorders, and eventually, cancer. Unwilling to start with invasive treatments, I got permission from my doctors to explore alternative therapies and I had a spontaneous remission at the hands of an energy healer. I felt the cancer leave my body—that’s how powerful the healing experience was for me on that table. For confirmation, my doctor ran some tests, and sure enough, the cancer was gone.

I was so amazed and intrigued, I began studying with shamans, seers, and healers, learning as much as I possibly could about chakras and how energy affects health. The more I learned, the less I was surprised by my remission. Medicine men and women and healers around the globe have been practicing energy healing for centuries, and our early ancestors were in tune with their natural energy healing abilities as well. These healers and spiritual teachers understood that chakras hold the keys to your physical, emotional, and mental well being, and your spiritual growth.

What Happens to an Imbalanced Chakra

There are seven main chakras that roughly follow a line from the base of your spine to the top of your head. Each chakra governs different areas of your life and is connected to different parts of your body. When a chakra is blocked, the arenas corresponding to that chakra will become affected.

For example, the throat chakra is the source of your authenticity, the place from which you speak your truth. If your throat chakra is imbalanced, you may have difficulty speaking your mind and expressing your feelings, and may find that you are easily manipulated by others. If the chakra stays dysfunctional for long enough, physical symptoms like problems with the thyroid, neck, jaw, teeth, gums, or mouth can develop. This is why energy healing is so important—keeping your chakras clear, charged, and balanced is the best way to maintain your health.

The Higher Chakras

There are also the secret higher chakras, starting with the eighth chakra, through which you can gain access to higher planes, psychic abilities, and eventually Source itself. In my thirty years of study and practice I have been led by Spirit to become intimately familiar with these higher chakras through advanced states of meditation, and now I want to pass that knowledge on to you!

I’ve just released a beautiful free 3 video teaching series that contains the best of what I’ve learned about chakras in my three decades as an energy healer, spiritual teacher, and seeker of the light. In the first video lesson you’ll explore the mystical higher spiritual chakras I just mentioned, and how you can begin the process of activating them and moving toward an amazing awakening of spirit. In the second and third ones, you’ll learn all about the main seven chakras and how you can make them work for you. Hope you enjoy these videos!

Find Your True Voice – The Secrets of Your Throat Chakra

As we move up the spine and enter the 5th chakra in the throat, we are moving into the more etheric or spiritual energy centers of the human body.

This cobalt blue chakra is basically concerned with communication and is associated with ether or sound. Being the first of the spiritual chakras, it is the portal through which we bring spirit into the physical realm by using sound and communication to voice our own unique expression of spirit. This chakra is the seat of expression.

You can see how the fifth chakra is a link between our inner and outer worlds. We create in the second chakra and then communicate that inner experience out into the world through our fifth chakra; we also communicate our inner desires out into the world to create our lives.

Sound is the rhythmic vibration of molecules of air. So, as we begin to understand the fifth chakra’s qualities of communication and sound, we begin to see the world in terms of vibration—the culmination of all of the activity that has occurred in the previous four chakras. At the level of the fifth chakra, we experience all of the inner workings and goings on of the previous four chakras simply as an overall vibration quality. So when we meet someone, we register them as a vibration. The higher the vibration, the more harmonious the person is within themselves.

All vibrations or wave forms are subject to resonance—where vibrations lock into rhythm with each other— the governing principle of the fifth chakra. When something resonates with us, whether it’s a person, an idea, or a piece of music, we experience that person or thing with greater harmony, energy, clarity, joy. Likewise, when we hear something that rings inside us as true, it is resonance at work. Resonance brings order and unity within and creates a much more harmonious state.

This is why I always say that if you want to change the world for the better, meditate more—as meditating will raise your own vibration and consciousness, and that vibration will emanate from you out into the world, where—thanks to resonance—it will influence others’ vibrations to rise to its level as well.

Communication is also subject to resonance. But before we can have resonance with others, we need to have resonance within ourselves. This means living and communicating according to our truth—which brings us to a key theme of the fifth chakra—speaking our truth. From an energy perspective, the throat chakra is THE power center of living from our truth. We do this through voice and through choice—the messengers of the fifth chakra. Choice gives voice to our desires, and, in turn, our voice expresses our choice.

This chakra is also the seat of inner guidance—the place where we have access to that still, quiet, wise voice within that can expertly guide us in any situation we find ourselves in. Our responsibility, of course, is to listen! If we ignore or override that wise inner voice, and if we do that enough, it WILL ultimately stop talking to us. In fact, disregarding our inner guidance will effectively shut down the normal processes of this chakra.

Living according to our truth is a daily practice of checking in with ourselves to hear our truth, including our subtle guidance, and then monitoring ourselves as we interact with the world to make sure we are in alignment with that truth and with higher will.

If the fifth chakra is distorted or shut down, we can have problems with communication. If there is excessive energy in this chakra, someone may talk too much, or too loudly, or in inappropriate ways (such as gossiping or blaming others). A deficient throat chakra could present different issues, such as stuttering or the fear of speaking. Other issues include feeling like we’ve lost the rhythm of life, experiencing an inability to take in what others are trying to give us, or being excessively shy. Still another problem is blocked creativity.

So, what can you do to balance your fifth chakra? Practice journaling as a way to express all your thoughts, feelings, and insights about yourself—a tremendously powerful way to begin expressing your truth. Speaking your truth out loud will also help to clear this energy center. You could also sing: in the shower, in the kitchen, in the car, in public! Chanting works, too.

The rewards of balancing this powerful energy center are more powerful communication, enhanced creativity, and an ease and flow to life.

Yoga and Energy Healing: Friends With Benefits

yoga

Nearly everyday, it seems like there is some new health fad or alternative therapy saying they can help you lose weight fast or detox your system in twenty-four hours or make you happy with a pill. These quick-result claims are usually bogus, and are often actually harmful, because the way you heal yourself is not quickly, but sure and steady like the turtle. Your health is not worth risking for a magical overnight cure, and all true, effective, lasting healing takes some time and effort. But if you want to get the most healing bang for your buck, there is one healing practice that has stood the test of time and is the closest thing to a magical cure you will find: energy healing.

Health Is a Balancing Act

The mind-body-spirit connection has been well established by studies and research that illustrate that your system is a balancing act: each aspect of your being—mind, emotions, body, and soul—affects the other aspects directly. Unprocessed emotional trauma can block your chakras, disrupting your energy flow, and those distortions in your chakras can cause physical illness or injury. Spiritual depression, too, can cause physical depression—an experience you may have gone through before finding the right spiritual path—and physical pain can cause spiritual pain or lack of faith.
Think of each element of your being like a support beam in a house. When one beam cracks or fails, the whole building is weakened and becomes more susceptible to additional problems. You are like that house; when your chakras are blocked or your body is ill or any foundational part of you is somehow not functioning properly, it throws the whole structure—you—out of balance, and leaves you open to further harm.

How Many Ways Is Yoga is Good for You?

This is where energy healing can come in and save the day. As an energy healer and spiritual teacher, I introduce my students to many techniques that clear, charge, and balance their chakras and energy field and therefore heal the rest of them: journaling, meditation, being of service, forgiveness, shamanic breath work, Ayurveda, and many more. Today, I’d like to focus on one technique that is nearly as old as energy medicine itself: yoga.
This ancient Indian practice has soared in popularity, with yoga studios everywhere and yoga clothes as their own fashion trend. This spiritual practice is now done by everyone from celebrities to businessmen to schoolchildren, and most people know at least a pose or two. There have been many studies and plenty of evidence to support the wide range of positive results attributed to yoga that it’s now well known for its myriad health benefits.

healing---yoga

Physically, yoga improves flexibility and muscle strength, aids digestion, helps you sleep better, lowers blood pressure, ups your immune function, decreases pain, and even increases sexual performance! Mentally, yoga helps you focus, releases stress, reduces anxiety, and calms your thoughts. Yoga has also been linked to higher self-esteem, amplified inner strength and power, deeper awareness, and more peace. Plus, it can help you tone your body and lose weight. And this is just the tip of the yoga iceberg!

Yoga’s Spiritual Side

At its core, Yoga is a spiritual practice, passed down from yogis who devoted their lives to spiritual pursuits, and “yokes” the body and the soul energetically, just as does the practice of energy healing. Yoga uses movement or postures, called asanas, to revitalize your nervous system, your circulation, and your flow of prana, positively affecting your personal energy field. Yoga also emphasizes the breath, or pranayama, and uses the breath to move prana in and out from your body during the movements. The asanas and breathing are done together in a specific way to soothe and link your body and mind, clear and balance your chakras, and bring you in touch with Source.

Yoga makes a great complement to your energy medicine practice and any of my healing courses. Yoga is not just about stretching your mind and body, but about really connecting to yourself on a deep spiritual level, grounding you to the Earth and your physicality so that you have roots from which to grow your spirituality, and increasing the flow of energy within you. Yoga and energy healing both strive for harmony and balance, clarity of thought and intention, and a deeper understanding of your higher self.

In its own way, yoga is a type of energy healing, so when you practice yoga and energy healing together, the results will multiply exponentially. They’re like friends with benefits, each helping to boost the effectiveness of the other, and working toward the same goal of healing and transforming your entire being.

forgiveness-energy-healing

4 Reasons to Forgive

Forgiveness is an essential part of healing. When you have suffered a wrong, or even a perceived wrong, the resulting hurt and anger can burrow deep into your heart and energy field and begin to fester. The longer you harbor the resentment and bitterness instead of forgiving the wrong, the higher the chances that those negative feelings will cause discord in your system, creating blocks in your chakras and eventually, physical symptoms and illness. Forgiveness is not easy for anyone. Trust me, I know. It took years of intense personal work through energy healing for me to be able to forgive my father for his abuse, and my mother for her blind eye and cold shoulder. If you have experienced severe betrayal or violence, abandonment or abuse, especially from a trusted family member or caretaker, forgiveness might seem like an impossible feat. It does take courage, but you can do it, and your life will improve a hundred times over once you do.

forgivng--healing--chakras--unblocking

Here are just a few of the reasons to practice forgiveness:

1. Forgiveness makes you feel better. Forgiveness takes the power away from the hurt or wrong and helps you to let it go. As long as you hold on to resentment or anger it can manifest in your life as depression, self-blame, guilt, loss of motivation, revenge fantasies, anxiety, and other emotional and mental issues, as well as physical health problems, especially those related to the heart chakra, including asthma, pneumonia, breast or lung cancer. When you forgive, you take a large step forward in healing yourself. Studies suggest that forgiveness improves the function of the immune system, and research has shown that pain levels decrease when patients forgive inner hurts. This is because forgiveness releases the clouds of darkness those negative emotions create in your field and body, and allows for light energy to fill those holes, which charges and energizes your whole being.

2. Forgiveness is not excusing. I want to make sure you understand that forgiveness is not excusing what someone did to you. There are likely very real betrayals and traumas in your life that are not excusable, and you should not have to feel like you need to minimize what happened to you. What forgiveness does entail is letting go of the residual emotions like resentment, anger, hurt, and bitterness that stem from what happened. Forgiving means you stop feeling hostile, that you let go of any need or desire for revenge or retribution. This is not a weakness; quite the opposite, in fact. It takes a ton of strength and courage to forgive, and if you can manage it, it will speed up your spiritual progress as well as set you free.

3. Guilt impedes your healing process. Guilt is a parasitic emotion. It eats at you from the inside, churning your stomach and making you tense, and not doing you any good. The only potential it has is spurring you to own up to your mistakes as best you can and to learn from them. Then you must move on, which includes forgiving yourself. Self-forgiveness is possibly more important than forgiving others, as you have to live with yourself every second of every day. If you are constantly beating yourself up over past mistakes, that blame and anger can cause blockages in your personal energy field. If you don’t forgive yourself, you put yourself at risk. If you already have a health problem like cancer or another disease, you must remember that it is not your fault! You were working with what you knew at that time, and you cannot control pollutants or genetics or abusers. There is nothing to be gained from wishing you could change the past, and self-blame only does further harm. As a spiritual teacher and energy healer, I encourage students to learn from the disease and then move on by forgiving yourself and letting it go. It is the only way to heal.

4. Forgiveness is for you, not them. The only person who suffers from a grudge is you. Holding onto the desire for revenge, or any other hostile emotion regarding someone who wronged you, doesn’t actually harm them the way you might want it to. In fact, it backfires, and causes you tremendous damage.

When you forgive, you lift a weight off your chest that you probably didn’t realize you were carrying, but you will feel so much lighter and freer once it’s been removed. When I finally realized one day that after years of journaling, meditating prayer, and energy medicine techniques, I no longer felt any hatred or bitterness toward my parents, it was like I was reborn. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and I felt utterly uplifted. You will, too.

If you have tried to forgive and are having trouble releasing your anger or hostility, try journaling about your feelings, which sets them free from your body and energy field and allows for fresh universal energy to fill that space. I also highly recommend you take one of my energy healing courses, which will give you plenty of techniques for processing and releasing your emotions so you can become healthier and happier. Lastly, be patient with yourself. Forgiveness can be very difficult, and can take time. But it is so worth the effort to be able to be free of the chains of guilt and bitterness, and move forward in creating the life you want.

THE HEART CHAKRA: THE CENTER OF YOUR BEING

“There is a light that shines beyond the world, beyond everything, beyond all, beyond the highest heaven. This is the light that shines within your heart.”— Upanishads

The heart chakra IS the heart of the matter.

The fourth of the seven chakras, the heart chakra is located in the center of your chest. There are three chakras below the heart center, which work with the energies of the earth—your ability to stay grounded, to know your body and physical senses, and to work with your sense of self. There are three chakras above the heart center, which work with the energies of the “heavens”—your communication and expression, your “third eye” abilities to connect with the invisible forces around you, and the crown of your connection with Source. And right there in the middle is the heart chakra, which has to mediate between heaven and earth.

The heart chakra is known as Anahata in Sanskrit. The word anahata means “unhurt, un-struck, and unbeaten.” Imagine feeling like nothing can hurt you, nothing negative is coming at you, and you are on top of all situations in your life. Imagine being able to love unconditionally! That is the provenance of the heart chakra.

You don’t have to think of the heart center in Hindu terms. Tibetan Buddhists call this energy center the “heart wheel,” and consider it very important in meditation. When you recite a mantra, first it is heard verbally, then mentally, and finally inside of the heart. Later, the practitioner drops into the central channel at the level of the heart to experience the Yoga of Clear Light.

In Kabbalah, the center of the Tree of Life is associated with the heart region. Christian Kabbalists associate this area with Jesus and with healing. Sufis, the mystics of Islam, talk about the Sirr—the secret, innermost heart of the heart, where Allah manifests his mystery to Himself. In the Chinese system of Qigong, the heart region is call the dantian, the “furnace” that transforms the qi energy into shen, spirit energy.

When you work to clear and balance your fourth chakra, you grow spiritually. It is in the heart that you can come into universal love and dissolve the illusion of separateness. It is here you can heal, both emotionally and physically. It is when you open your heart to love so you can forgive yourself and others, connect deeply to others, rise above the lower emotions of anger, hatred, and envy, and rise to a higher state of consciousness. It is in the heart center that you experience peace and deep inner balance.

A balanced heart chakra is beautiful. It is the center of compassion, altruism, devotion, and the ability to accept that all the circumstances of your life are within the divine order.

However, most of us have built walls around our heart chakra to protect ourselves from getting hurt again. A blocked heart chakra can make you feel defensive, or you may be critical, controlling, withdrawn, or afraid of letting go. You are likely to feel lonely, and think of others as being separate from you. Your life may be full of suffering.

So how can you open your heart and bring that center into balance? Here are 9 ways:

  1. Get out in nature. The color of the heart center is green. Let the green of nature start the process of healing for you.
  2. Before you meditate visualize green light filling and surrounding your heart center.
  3. Allow yourself to receive love, including loving yourself!
  4. Love others unselfishly, not demanding anything in return.
  5. Be thankful. Gratitude is a great way to stop finding fault in everyone around you.
  6. Learn to forgive. A lot of heart chakra blockage is caused by not letting go of past hurts.
  7. Move your body. Try a practice like yoga or tai chi to gently let go of stiffness and open your heart center.
  8. Work with a compassionate and proficient therapist to deal with relationships that need healing and with releasing deep emotional wounds.
  9. Use affirmations such as: “I am loved,” “I give and receive love freely” and “I am connected to everything in the universe.”

As you do the practices and meditations that are designed to help you open your heart, your ability to love grows. You go beyond what we think of as love (the affection and warmth we feel for someone) to unconditional love (love as a force that comes through you and has no attachment) and on to universal love, where you understand that love is the Source of your own being. You will be a more caring and joyous individual.

A Balanced Third Chakra

Third Chakra

When our third energy centers are fit and healthy, we feel able to take action. Our intentions are clearly focused. Those with vibrant third energy centers claim their power and stand in it. They have no need to demand or ruthlessly take power from someone else. Power flows to them because they know who they are and who they are not. These people can accomplish a great deal in the world.

An inspiring example of someone with an integrated third energy center is Halle Berry, the first African-American woman to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the movie Monster’s Ball. Berry, the child of a white mother and African-American father, was a shy young girl whose father drank and abused her mother before he left when she was four years old. Kids teased her about her mixed color at school, yet she chose to become a beauty queen, fashion model, and then an actress. While filming a television show, she fainted on the set from undiagnosed diabetes and wound up in a coma for a week. When she woke up, she embarked on a healthy diet and exercise lifestyle. Now she says that diabetes turned out to be a gift. She said, “It gave me strength and toughness because I had to face reality, no matter how uncomfortable or painful it was.”

That pain included an attempted suicide after an early relationship failed. She said, “My sense of worth was so low. I had to reprogram myself to see the good in me. Because someone didn’t love me didn’t mean I was unlovable. I promised myself I would never be a coward again.”

Halle Berry may have come from a place of desperate inadequacy, but her will and resilience have overcome the distortion in her third chakra. She now lives her truth without bending to what others think and has learned how to manifest her desires, overcoming her diabetic condition to have the baby she so wanted in her life, even after 35 negative pregnancy tests. In an interview she said, “I have never been in better physical and emotional shape, and I’m happy in my personal life—what a novel idea!”

A few considerations for obtaining a balanced third chakra are:

  • Live your truth without regard for what others think.
  • Take responsibility for your words and actions.
  • Acknowledge that you have a choice and the ability to manifest your desires.

CHECKLIST

If you have concerns about whether you have imbalance in this area, answer the following questions:

  • Am I able to acknowledge and move through my feelings of anger and resentment without blaming o verbally attacking others
  • Is jealously eating me up?
  • Do I feel I can cooperate with others as a team player or do I invariably need to hog the limelight?
  • Do I chronically push myself and others to get things done? Do I try to “push” time itself?
  • Do I try to control others or events?
  • Do I have a habit of standing with my arms folded in front of me, above my waist, in an effort to protect my solar plexus?
  • Do I frequently feel overpowered by people I am with?
  • Is winning everything?
  • Do I require outside approval to feel okay about myself?

To support an increase in energy, vitality, and connection to self, I often recommend that people spend a portion of their day in the sun, preferably in the early morning or just before sunset. (If you are inclined to be angry or short-tempered, though, be very cautious about becoming too warm.) Engaging in any physical movement awakens and recharges your body, especially first thing in the morning. Try some form of intentional movement like t’ai chi, yoga, or Pilates, preferably outside. Gardening is another wonderful antidote to a frantic, fast-paced routine. Anything that allows you to slow down and become acquainted with who you are and what you really feel is key.

How to Use a Chakra Pendulum

Using a Chakra Pendulum: A How To Guide

How to Use a Chakra Pendulum

When it comes to evaluating the health of your energy field, a chakra pendulum is one of the best tools in your kit.

In the 30+ years that I’ve been practicing energy medicine, I’ve taught tens of thousands of people how to use a chakra pendulum — from skeptical beginners who are unsure of their own healing capabilities to advanced students in my LifeForce Energy Healing program.

One of the reasons that the simple chakra pendulum remains my favorite tool is because anyone can use it; you don’t need the latest iPhone and chakra balancing app or even a chakra pendulum chart —once you learn to use it, you’ll be able to get information immediately about the location of each chakra and its movement…which makes the process of clearing your chakras much easier!

Anyone can learn how to use chakra pendulum, but it does take a little bit of practice and patience to get results. However, just like learning to ride a bike or play an instrument, once you use it correctly and understand the different chakra pendulum movements, the skill will be with you for life.

I recommend that you start with a conically shaped wood pendulum made from beechwood (not metal, crystal, or stone).

If you don’t have a chakra pendulum yet, the one I use (and recommend) is available for purchase on this site. Click here to add to cart.

Keep your new pendulum close to your body for a few days before using it so that it can soak up your energy. It is important for your pendulum to resonate with your energy. Next, you should bless your pendulum by letting your higher self and your spirit guides know that you would like their assistance in influencing the pendulum’s movement. It is the movement of the pendulum that will serve as your guidance, so you want to be sure you are open and available to the assistance from both your higher self and your spirit guides, and be sure that they know that too. Make sure you do the blessing before each and every pendulum use.

How to use a chakra pendulum

Begin by laying down on your back (or, if you are performing the chakra pendulum exercise on someone else, have them lie on their back on a surface that is tall enough for you to have a comfortable position and not be leaning into them. You do not want to create a “push,” where you are pushing energy from your field into theirs).

** If you need a quick review of the location of the chakras in the body, click here to jump to that section of this page. **

Holding the cord of the pendulum between your thumb and forefinger about 4-6 inches (or 10-15 cm) above each chakra. When the pendulum moves, observe its direction and movement.

chakra moving clockwiseIf the pendulum moves clockwise, that chakra is open, well-balanced, and full.

chakra moving counter clockwiseIf the pendulum moves counter-clockwise, there may be blocked energy or unreleased emotions relating to that specific chakra.

chakra moving ellipitical swingIf the pendulum moves in an elliptical swing, there may be a right- or left-side imbalance of energy flowing in the body. This may be due to overusing the right masculine side or the left nurturing side.

chakra moving erraticallyIf the pendulum moves in an erratic swing, it is possible that you (or the person you are performing the chakra pendulum exercise on) may have recently changed their beliefs or are going through a spiritual upheaval, which can affect the chakra’s movement and cause it to move erratically for a couple of days.

chakra not movingIf the pendulum does not move at all, you may be holding the pendulum in the incorrect location. If that is not the case, then there may be a blockage in that chakra.

Be aware that the size of the pendulum’s circle is a result of your energy field, the pendulum’s energy field and your subject’s energy field all combined together. This means that your own chakra health and the health of your own energy field will have a direct impact on how effective you are at reading others’ chakras.

With practice and experience, you will be able to pick up on all of the different chakra qualities and be able to read whether someone is going through joy, peace, clarity, heaviness, darkness, or depression – all from checking their chakras with your pendulum! Stay patient with yourself as you figure out where the chakras are and how to properly use your pendulum to check them. This skill is indeed a learned and practiced skill that will improve with time and experience. You will see results if you keep at it and practice!

Chakra locations

Before using the pendulum on another, make sure you are very familiar with where the chakras are located.

root chakra pendulum1. Root Chakra: base of the spine.

sexual chakra pendulum2. Sexual Chakra: halfway between the root chakra and the waist.

solar plexus chakra3. Solar Plexus Chakra: halfway between the navel and the breastbone.

heart chakra pendulum4. Heart Chakra: in the center of the chest.

throat chakra pendulum5. Throat Chakra: in the center of the throat.

third eye chakra pendulum6. Third Eye Chakra: between the eyebrows.

crown chakra pendulum7. Crown Chakra: the top of the head.

The Secret Seven: 7 Tips to Buff up your Chakra System

Energy medicine promotes healing by working within an individual’s personal energetic field and seeing how it interacts with the larger energy field. We can tell what’s happening with someone by checking in on their 7 main chakras, the centers of energy that run from the base of the spine up through the top of the head.

These 7 centers, along with up to 20 smaller chakras, govern our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health. In other words, chakras hold the secrets to how you feel about yourself and your world, how you get along with others, the condition of your body, your relationship to money, whether or not weight is a problem, how you make decisions, and your spiritual advancement.

That’s a lot to ask of something most people can’t see. But then again, we can’t see the radioactive particles released from a damaged nuclear reactor either, and yet we take seriously their capability to affect our lives. The energy centered in the chakras has a very profound effect on our lives.

So what can you do to create and maintain healthy and balanced chakras? Here are seven sure-fire simple steps you can take to balance your chakras:

 1.    Connect to Mother Earth: Take a walk in nature.

The first chakra is your Root Chakra and is the very foundation of physical and emotional health. It is your basic connection to Mother Earth- the roots you plant in the soil of your being. This is where your physical strength lies, and the psychological strength to withstand whatever you have to deal with.

A simple walk barefoot on grass or a sandy beach will do wonders to ground you. Hug a tree, go hiking in the wilderness, or visit a local park. You don’t have to live in the countryside or mountains to strengthen this connection with Mother Nature. Grounding yourself will give you the experience of “I am here, and I am safe” and this presence is so essential to your health. Take time out of your day to make sure you make this connection and you will automatically strengthen your Root Chakra.

 2.    Calm your Body and Environment with Water.

The second chakra is the seat of sensuality, sexuality, emotion, and the inner child. It governs how we relate in groups, how we establish inner and outer boundaries, and how we find pleasure. A common problem related to the second chakra is addition. You may be using drugs, alcohol, pills, food, smoking, exercise, or sex as ways to avoid dealing with your emotions, to numb yourself. The physical problems of a poorly functioning second chakra are often the kinds of things that breed shame if the health issues concern their sexuality. One way to heal the shame is to soak for at least 20 minutes in a bath of warm water with one pound each of sea salt and baking soda.  Imagine all your guilt and shame dissolving in the bath water and being washed away as you say:“I speak the truth and reclaim my true nature. I am pure. I am clean.” Water is healing, and immersing yourself in water on a regular basis is a self-nuturing habit.

 3.    Get Moving!

The third chakra is the seat of our self-worth – our self esteem, will power, and personal power. It is the seat of our mental body, where we identify with our ego and our individuality. A strong will means we know what our goals are and have an idea of what we want to do. The power in the third chakra is our right to act, to use our will, to follow through with what we start, to meet challenges head-on, and to not be stopped by fear. You can balance your third chakra through physical movement, especially outside in the sun in the early morning or before sunset. Don’t get too warm if you tend to be angry or short-tempered! Physical movement awakens and recharges your body. You can also try T’ai Chi, Yoga, or Pilates!

 4.    Love a Pet!

The fourth chakra is your heart chakra and it is the center point, where you merge the strength and support of Mother Earth from below with the wisdom and guidance from above that combine to make you a compassionate human being. A poorly functioning fourth chakra can keep you in bondage to emotional attachment. It is through your heart chakra that you can come to feel the presence of unconditional, unlimited love – for your self, for all beings, for the world and beyond. One of the best ways to boost your heart chakra is through giving and receiving love with a pet. Our pets love us unconditionally and make it safe for us to learn to love again. Do you have room in your life to adopt a dog or cat? You can feed your heart chakra and at the same time change this animal’s life forever in a positive way. No room or time to adopt your own? What about visiting your local shelter or even just visiting a friend’s friendly pet and sharing some love with them?

 5.    Express Yourself: Use your Voice.

The fifth chakra is our center of creativity. This chakra is where we express our choices and communicate who we are. Because our use of sound and communication purifies our lower selves and allows us to experience the higher vibrations of spirit, we can tune up our fifth chakra by expressing ourselves more clearly and exploring our creativity. All creativity is a way to communicate what we feel. Use your voice and read out loud your favorite book or poem. Write something yourself and recite it! Sing a song – in the shower, in your car wherever! When your fifth chakra is in balance, you can live your dreams and visions, your greater purpose. Let yourself be who you are and give yourself a voice!

 6.    Visualize and Find your Inner Sight.

The sixth chakra, or “third eye”, is the center of higher intellect. The gifts of the spirit emerge in this chakra, like clairvoyance, telepathy, precognition, and psychokinesis. You can boost this chakra by working to rid yourself of the clutter in your mind so you can “see” more clearly. Daily meditation is a wonderful way to get rid of old beliefs and thought patterns that are holding you back. When you have awakened the sixth chakra, you are in touch with inspiration, insight, wisdom, and vision.

 7.    Invite the Divine!

The seventh chakra, or crown chakra, connects us to spirit, our higher power, and the universe. It lights up our consciousness. When our crown chakra is open, our perception is clearer, broader, and we are allowed to not only see our daily patterns, but also the deep metaphysical patterns of our lives. Like the sixth chakra, meditation is a powerful tool to boosting this chakra. Perhaps prayer or communion with nature will assist you as well. Ask your own higher wisdom for guidance and signs that you are on the right path, and make time for yourself to listen for internal messages regarding purpose and direction. Visualize positive and peaceful outcomes. The truth that emerges will open the door for you to greater levels of connection.

Your chakras are all interconnected. They embrace you as a whole person. As you do the inner work of clearing and releasing past traumas, negativity and outmoded belief systems, you will lighten the load of your chakras. Your energy will move into greater balance, and as a result, you will feel better. So why not take the initiative and seek out ways to better balance your chakras?

Which Healing System Will Work for You?

Recently, the Wall Street Journal reported doctors are tracking a patient’s mood, social life, and lifestyle to better manage their illness. They are trying to define health not just in the degree of mobility a knee or shoulder may offer, but whether the knee or shoulder is limiting their patient in participating in what makes their life full and meaningful. From regular monitoring, the doctors say they will be able to determine how extreme their patient’s treatment should be and what alternative medicine therapies to recommend.

It’s important to understand the mind-body connection as it relates to health. It is becoming more well understood that recurring cases of emotional stress can manifest a real mind-body connection issue that can present themselves in many physical problems—and can even impact someone’s own healing system mechanisms. So we are broadening our view of health and wellness and understanding one healing system is rarely enough.

Praying, meditating, journaling and chakra healing are all forms of healing systems. They allow conventional medical treatments to work more effectively; they allow us to explore the depth of our emotional pain—no matter what it is attributed to—without the fear of losing control and losing ourselves. Use these healing systems and see which one works best for you.

Every ancient culture on Earth, from the Mayan and the Aztec to the East Indian and Chinese, had healing systems that worked. The key is to learn which one will work for you.

The Price We Pay

Have you ever wondered whether small, constant headaches are the price we pay for living in a hyper-charged, over stimulated society? For me, tension headaches were a daily companion as I went through college and law school. I thought they were par for the course and was a little surprised when I found out that others did not routinely suffer from them.

Women are more likely to develop tension headaches than men quite possibly because we are trained from birth to suppress our feelings. Society rewards us for handling career, family, household, and community responsibilities without missing a beat or feeling exhausted.  But for many of us, it can be a burden—feeling so disconnected between our inner emotional struggles and the outward calm we present to the world. When we hide from the truth, we don’t allow our energy to flow freely in our bodies resulting in ill health in the form of tension headaches.

Here are three things that you can do to find relief from the pain because our fast-paced society is not going to change…only we can:

  • Identify when and how you feel when you experience them. Determining if they are primary headaches (such as migraines) or secondary headaches (caused by other illnesses or triggers) will help you treat them.
  • Honestly, assess the rhythm of your day and determine if stress, food or sleep patterns may be triggering your tension headaches.
  • Mix alternative medicine techniques with any conventional medical treatments that you may be receiving. Our clients have received headache relief from journaling, more regular exercise, yoga, meditation, prayer, massage, and balancing their chakras through energy healing.
