Stuck in neutral?

hard choice

Well, I’ve finally gotten around to writing about procrastination. I guess there’s a reason I often repeated Scarlett O’Hara’s words in Gone With The Wind: “I’ll think about it tomorrow. After all, tomorrow is another day.” Indeed, we all do it. We put off till tomorrow what we don’t want to face today. It can go on indefinitely. There are, however, consequences to not moving forward in your life, to not embracing change. Emotions get buried deep inside, trouble ensues.

What’s interesting is that procrastination doesn’t come from laziness. Believe it or not, that “lazy bum” who can’t get off the lounge chair in front of the TV has a lot in common with the spiritual seeker who frequently blows off meditation practice. It all comes down to self-love: loving yourself enough to get into gear and do what you know you have to do in order to be the person you want to be.

So how do you start the ball rolling? How do you finally get off the couch and walk into the rest of your life? That’s what I’ve just written about in a blog for The Huffington Post. You can read it and comment there http://www.huffingtonpost.com/deborah-king/what-if-tomorrow-never-co_b_9088122.html?utm_hp_ref=gps-for-the-soul&ir=GPS+for+the+Soul.

3 Steps for Using Chakra Cards to Clear Past Traumas

“Awareness is always the first step to healing.” ~ Deborah King

Are past traumas and buried emotions keeping you trapped? It really is true that what you don’t know can hurt you. Negative thoughts and unprocessed feelings may be hiding in your unconscious mind, affecting your overall health and happiness. In my work as an energy healer and spiritual teacher, I have found these buried thoughts and feelings to be the number one obstacle that keeps people from moving up in consciousness as well as the primary cause of illness. Keep painful experiences buried and they eventually block the healthy flow of energy through your body’s chakra energy system.

Fortunately, it’s never too late to clear out old traumas with energy healing. Blockages in your chakras are caused by traumas that aren’t fully released.  Whether this emotional build-up is recent or twenty years old, the healing process is the same. Resolve the denial of buried thoughts and feelings by becoming more self-aware and getting to know the truth about you.

Telling the truth is an act of love – love for yourself, for your life, and for all those you love. The lies used to hide your truth sit inside you like a time bomb; the sooner you are willing to dismantle the lies, the sooner you can heal. One very effective technique for beginning to recognize your truth is to give yourself a reading with chakra cards. The cards provide you with a personal, specific-to-you message to guide you as you write your truth in a journal.

Here are 3 simple steps for using chakra cards:

  1. Hold the cards in your hand to let them absorb your energy. Shuffle the deck well, fan it out face down and pick a card at random.
  2. Answer the question posed on this card in your journal. Explore and expand your thoughts on the subject, without self-editing. This will help you integrate all the parts of yourself, including what you’ve hidden or repressed, which is the first step in healing both your psyche and your body.
  3. Note the color on the card you are using. The cards are color-coded to correspond to the 7 major energy centers, chakras, in the body. This will help focus your energy on the areas that are most in need of healing. The cards offer suggestions for rebalancing that chakra.

Used in conjunction with the chakra cards, your journal can become a powerful tool to enhance self-discovery. Be completely truthful in your journal. Say it like it is. If you are angry, be angry. The point is to be authentic. When you can trust yourself to be truthful on the pages of your journal, you can trust yourself to be truthful in the world. Just watch how your whole body relaxes as you express your truth. You’ve given yourself permission to be you – to speak your mind, to give voice to the truth of who you are.

The act of expressing your deepest thoughts and feelings – your desires and regrets, your fears and insecurities, your joys and your heartbreaks is not always easy but truly vital for your wellbeing.  As you bring these issues to the surface, they lose their power over you and open up space for you to create the life of your dreams. When you write about your emotions, it releases them from your body and prevents them from creating distortions and blockages in your chakras.

Thousands of years ago, the great philosophers advised us to “know thyself.” And it’s so true. The secrets we keep and the lies we tell ourselves create all of our illness and unhappiness. To know yourself, you must constantly be in the mind-set of self-reflection to figure out how you feel about all that has happened to you in the past and everything that is happening to you right now. You’ll start to be in touch with your feelings moment to moment and keep your energy flowing freely.

Using a Pendulum to Tune-Up Your Chakras

One of the most remarkable tools of energy healing is the pendulum. If you think of a pendulum as the hypnotist’s pocket watch swinging back and forth or the driving mechanism of a grandfather clock, you have part of the picture. A pendulum is simply a weight suspended from a fixed point so it can move freely—back and forth or around and around.

In energy healing, this small, symmetrical object hanging by a cord can be used to increase your sensitivity to energy flow by acting as an amplifier, helping you access the unified field, as well as your higher self. A pendulum can help you find the location of a chakra energy center and check its healthy activity level.

When you’re first learning to use a pendulum, I recommend one made of wood (preferably beechwood) with a conical shape. This will be best for giving you the information you’re looking for from chakras without distortions. Carry your new pendulum around with you for a few days in a little pouch or your pocket so it begins to resonate with your energy. The first step in using your pendulum is to bless it. You’ll want to do this before each use. For example, you

might ask for your higher self and all the higher beings that are prepared to assist you to influence the movement of the pendulum as you work. It is the movement of the pendulum that will guide you to the information you seek, so you will want to be sure you are open and available to assistance both from your own higher self and your spirit guides.

When you’re ready, your pendulum can provide valuable feedback for good health when you use it to check chakras, which are focal points of energy in the human energy field. The pendulum amplifies energy and can help you locate and gain information about the chakra’s functioning. Here’s where the chakras are located:

  • First Chakra – at the base of the spine
  • Second Chakra – halfway between the first chakra and the waist
  • Third Chakra – halfway between the navel and the breastbone
  • Fourth Chakra – in the center of the chest
  • Fifth Chakra – in the middle of the throat
  • Sixth Chakra – between the eyebrows
  • Seventh Chakra – at the top of the head

Begin by having your subject lie down on her back, on a surface at the best height for you to stand in a straight and comfortable posture beside her. Kitchen counters are ideal! With your posture straight and your arm extended a little forward from your body, suspend the pendulum over each energy center, about four inches above the chakras. As the pendulum starts to move, note the direction of its movement. Is it clockwise, counterclockwise, elliptical (irregular), or not moving at all? Write this down, and then move up to the next chakra.

Here are a few ways to interpret the meaning of the pendulum’s movements:

  1. Clockwise movement indicates that the chakra is open and the feelings governed by it are well balanced and full.
  2. Counterclockwise movement indicates possible blocked energy or negative experiences with the feelings related to that chakra. Whether the circle is larger or smaller also tells you whether the energy is flowing nicely or restricted.
  3. An elliptical swing indicates a right- or left-side imbalance of energy flow in the body, perhaps due to overusing either the right masculine side or the left nurturing side.

But what if there is no movement at all? This might indicate that you’re holding the pendulum above the wrong place on the body. If you try again and are sure you are in the correct location, it can indicate that blockage is present.

The size of the chakra is not the size of the circle that the pendulum makes; rather, the size of the pendulum’s circle is a function of your energy field combined with both that of the pendulum and the subject.

It’s important to remember that the health of your own energy field has a direct impact on your effectiveness in reading the other person’s energy centers. Don’t be discouraged when you first begin, if you find that you can’t even figure out where the chakras are. Practice, practice, practice. It won’t be long before you’ll start to see results.

Give Yourself a Good Vibrations Tune-Up: Clear & Balance Your Chakras for a Vibrant New Year

Are you taking a quiet moment about now to dream this New Year? Will 2016 bring renewed health and happiness? Will you do all you can to feel great and get yourself together mentally, physically and spiritually? New beginnings are beautiful and a true gift from our Divine source as we let the past go and embrace the future. If you are looking for a great way to start fresh for a healthy New Year, consider what you can learn by tuning in to your miraculous body.

All aspects of your well-being depend on the smooth flow of energy. Your body wants to feel great and will welcome your efforts to listen in and receive its messages.  You can give yourself a good vibrations tune-up by checking your body’s energy field, making sure that your chakras, the vital energy centers of your body, are clear and balanced. When unencumbered and spinning freely in the right direction, your chakras move energy between your personal field and the energy field of the universe.  As a spiritual teacher and energy healer, I know how deeply the energy centered in your chakras can affect your entire being.

What are some of the messages your chakras might reveal? The seven main chakras, the energy centers that run from the base of your spine to the top of your head, contain secrets about the condition of your body and why you feel the way you do.

Want to feel great? Give yourself a good vibrations tune-up by checking in with your personal energy centers:

  1. First Chakra – The first chakra, located at the base of your spine, is your root or base chakra and the foundation of your physical health. Signs that your first chakra needs attention are low energy, feelings of being ungrounded and disoriented, excessive fears, and a tendency to get sick often. You feel unsafe in the world.
  2. Second Chakra – The second chakra, located midway between your first chakra and your waistline, is the sacral or sexual chakra and the seat of your emotional body. When your second chakra needs attention, you may have issues with addictions, sexual dysfunction, feelings of abandonment and loneliness. You feel shame.
  3. Third Chakra – The third chakra, or solar plexus chakra is situated halfway between your navel and your breastbone. It is the seat of your mental body where you identify with your ego, self-esteem, and personal power. Third chakra problems may include feelings of anger, resentment, and jealousy as well as a need to control others and events. You feel others are to blame.
  4. Fourth Chakra – The fourth or heart chakra, right in the center of your chest, is the place where you connect with compassion, love, understanding, and care (including love and appreciation for yourself). When your fourth chakra needs attention, you may experience heart-related health problems or feelings of betrayal by loved ones, fear of love, or reluctance to forgive yourself or others. You feel unloved.
  5. Fifth Chakra – The fifth chakra, or throat chakra, is right in the center of your throat and is the seat of communication and self-expression, your unique voice. Problems with the fifth chakra are connected with the throat area and your capacity for expressing your thoughts and feelings freely and honestly. You may be chronically hoarse and have frequent sore throats and sinus problems. You feel unheard.
  6. Sixth Chakra – Your sixth chakra is your third eye chakra, located in the center of your forehead. It enables you to see, intuit, sense and discern. If your sixth chakra is blocked or unbalanced, you may have headaches and eye problems. You may be ignoring your inner guidance, denying what’s true, or anticipating negative outcomes. You feel unable or unwilling to see truth.
  7. Seventh Chakra – Your seventh chakra is right at the very top of your head and is the seat of your connection to Spirit, prayer, meditation, devotion, and faith. Unless your seventh chakra is balanced and open, it may be hard for you to trust your higher power, accept past losses, feel blessed and connected to a loving and supportive universe. You feel disconnected from Spirit.

Exploring your chakras to see if they are balanced and free of negative energy is a great way to begin your healthy New Year. Renewed health and vigor are the natural results of balanced energy systems and a great New Year’s gift you can give to your spirit.

To discover the Secrets of Chakra Wisdom – the chakras hold the key to unlocking everything you desire in your life including better health, more energy to do what you love, more fulfilling relationships and greater abundance. You do have the power within to live the life you dream of… and it all starts with clearing and balancing your chakras.
