Need a Sacred Place?

SUMMER IS HERE, and you want to do something a little different for your two-week vacation, or for a long weekend. You’d prefer to go somewhere like the pyramids in Egypt, or Stonehenge in England, or Machu Picchu in Peru and connect with the ancient spiritual energies, but . . . well, that’s just not going to happen this year. Never fear, you can visit sacred sites right here in the U.S., and you can probably find ones right near where you live.

We don’t often think about the places in the U.S. that are considered sacred, yet there are many. But first, what is a sacred site? Some are places that are held holy by certain religions or cultural traditions; some are geological features like mountains, waterfalls, or caves; some have man-made structures on them. What all of these sacred sites have in common is an energy field that surrounds and saturates them. The invisible field of energy at certain places can have the ability to heal the body and awaken the soul. When a pilgrim enters that place of power and connects to it through meditation, prayer, or ritual, he or she can link up with the power of the place. As a spiritual teacher and a seeker, I’ve often connected to Source at sacred sites.

So where in the U.S. might you go?

If you live in or near the Ohio River Valley, for example, you are in the heart of the great ceremonial mound-building culture that developed along the Mississippi River and its tributaries. Over 10,000 mounds and earthworks once flourished in the area, built by ancestors of today’s American Indians. Many of these earthen hills are filled with burials and funerary objects, while other mounds were used mostly for ceremony. Of the many that once existed, 1,000 mounds are still visible. Others have been destroyed in the name of progress. You know, the “take Paradise, put up a parking lot” mentality. If you play golf at the Moundbuilders Country Club, for example, you could be teeing off on top of the Octagon Mound. But there are still fragments you can see of the Wright Earthworks or the Newark Earthworks. You can also visit the quarter-mile Great Serpent Mound (pictured) near Dayton, Ohio, the largest effigy mound in the U.S., which represents an underworld spirit being. The serpent’s head aligns to sunset on the day of the summer solstice.

In Illinois, the Cahokia Mounds are part of an ancient civilization of Mississippian peoples that was once one of the greatest cities in the world. Part of the complex, called the Monk’s Mound, is the largest manmade earthen mound in the Americas, with a base larger than the Great Pyramid at Giza.

Many of the places that are still sacred to the Native peoples are in the West, such as Crater Lake, Oregon, sacred to the Klamath people whose ancestors witnessed the eruption that formed the lake; Blue Lake, NM, sacred to the Taos Pueblo; The Black Hills of South Dakota, especially Bear Butte, sacred to the Lakota Cheyenne and Kiowa (the Lakota called it the “Heart of All Things,” and an astronaut on the space shuttle who photographed it from orbit said the outline of the mountains looks like a human heart); for the Snoqualmie people, the massive Snoqualmie Falls waterfall is their spiritual focal point, with the mists from the base believed to connect heaven and earth.

If you can’t get out of the city, visit any of the magnificent cathedrals and temples that you may have passed a thousand times without entering—such as Trinity Church in Boston; the Baltimore Basilica; St Patrick’s, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine (the largest cathedral in the world), or Saint Thomas Church in New York—and spend some time meditating there.

From Mount Denali in Alaska to the Bighorn Medicine Wheel in Wyoming, from the Great Mother Mound in Mississippi to the Pipestone National Monument in Minnesota, from Mt. Kilauea in Maui (the home of the volcano goddess Pele) to the Badlands of South Dakota, there are incredible places to visit that don’t need a passport to get to. All across the U.S., there are thousands of sites sacred to the indigenous tribes and nations of this country, each with their own mythology and imbued spirituality. So whether you are aware of it or not, you could be living and working on or walking or driving over sacred land.

Do some research in your local area to discover what once existed there, or what may possibly still be available as a sacred site you can visit. Go online to one of the lists of U.S. sacred sites to see some of the places available in your state. Or come to an energy healing or life coaching course and learn to connect to the sacred site of your own heart.

Sacred sites are everywhere!

One such sacred site – a powerful spiritual vortex – is located in the heart of the Arizona desert: Sedona. It’s a place full of powerful energy, which you can leverage to propel your own spiritual evolution.

And this October 15-18th, the Deborah King Center will be gathering in Sedona, at the Sedona Mago Retreat Center, for a few days of learning, healing, connecting, and spiritual transformation.

It’ll be a pilgrimage that you’ll never forget. And we invite you to join us. Click here for more information >>

4 Healing Practices to Ground Your Base Chakra & Thrive in Uncertain Times

Whether it’s the global pandemic, racial injustice, or personal challenges you’re dealing with, fear can seep into your energetic system and wreak havoc.

With all that we’re experiencing, around the world and especially in the US right now, it’s hard to know what’s coming next — and that uncertainty can feel like walking blindfolded toward the edge of a cliff. Many people are struggling financially too.

If you know about your first chakra — also called the base chakra or the root chakra — you know that it’s the power center that deals with security and survival…

What you might not know is that the Earth has a chakra system too, and her base chakra is deeply off balance in all this upheaval.

People are feeling this profound disruption in themselves and the Earth whether they know it or not. Feelings of anxiety and being on edge are easy to blame on the nearest little thing, but in fact you’re absorbing the energy of everyone and everything on the planet, and everyone in every country is deeply anxious right now.

From jobs and health to finances, family, and groups we care about — these are all base chakra survival issues. So are disruptions in the Earth — tropical storms, wildfires, you name it.

The good news — and we REALLY need good news, right? — is that you can release fear and anxiety from your base chakra and replace it with useful energy… and stop fear from taking hold in your power centers and energy field.

You can also send healing energy right into Mother Earth. And when you do this, the positive effects reverberate, which can help ease the tumult that’s running rampant on our planet.

A quick word about fear: To some degree, fear is necessary to life on this physical plane. Fear can keep you safe from threats — whether it’s heights, snakes, water, or any kind of injury. Your ancestors relied on fright as a warning system to protect them from falling off a cliff, getting bitten by a poisonous reptile, drowning in a river, or being hurt by someone or something. Your brain continues to use thousands of years of programmed fear to shield your body from harm.

But what happens when you live in fear every day? All day? Fear of a world seeming to fall apart, fear of loneliness, fear of failure — these fears can burrow into your psyche and prevent you from helping to advance humanity or live a meaningful life full of positive relationships and experiences. These fears can damage your chances — and humanity’s chances, and the planet’s chances — of living in light and love, so let’s get some relief! It’s long past due.

The power of your base chakra for releasing unproductive fear.

Fear’s primal place to live is in your first chakra. This base chakra is located at the base of your spine and it’s connected to your security and survival. It’s your foundation, and it has the power to ground and connect you to the physical world. But when it’s unbalanced, you might not feel safe in your body or your place in the world. You might not feel grounded or present. You might find yourself stressed, to say the least.

Childhood traumas can stay stuck in your base chakra until you discover strategies to release them. Fear of illness, global calamity, brutality — the things we’re seeing in our world today — combined with personal fears about safety, security, and stability can disrupt or distort the free flow of energy in your base chakra.

Here are 4 Healing Practices to Help You Clear Blocks in Your Base Chakra — and the Earth’s Base Chakra:

  1. Do a Grounding Meditation

When you’re ungrounded, you’re vulnerable to fear’s draining energy and you can get blocked. Fear walks right through those open doors of stress and strain and settles in your mind and body. Meditation is one of the best ways to ground yourself so you can keep those doors closed to fear and open to love.Meditate every day, and your fears — along with those fear-in-disguise feelings like anxiety and hopelessness — will start to subside.

Start by sitting with your eyes closed — either in the traditional lotus position on the floor, or with your feet planted on the ground as you recline in a chair. Keep your hands on your knees — this in itself is very grounding.

Focus on your base chakra, right at the base of your spine, and see a red cord from it planting itself firmly in the ground.

As your cord drops down, visualize the energy of the Earth’s base chakra radiating in every direction and spinning rhythmically as it glows with ruby-red light. This base chakra of the Earth is usually thought to be located at Mount Shasta in Northern California, which Native American tribes considered to be a geyser of upward energy.

Watch its radiating energy spread up through your grounding cord and into your physical body. Breathe deeply as you absorb the strength that the Earth always holds for you. Like the most resourced mother, the Earth always has the capacity to hold and nourish you — as she replenishes herself with infinite love and a profound connection to the whole of the universe.

It’s now time to visualize this energy saturating the entire planet and flooding your own base chakra with life. As you visualize this vibrant red energy,, observe how its healing flow flushes away fear, old systems and ways of life that need to be released, negative thoughts and patterns, and stale energy. Watch stuckness release from your body and the Earth’s body — into a vacuum of light, where it’s being transmuted into golden love.

Now visualize the Earth’s base chakra as a red flower. Watch that flower bloom. Visualize its radiant energy travelling up your grounding cord until your own red flower blossoms at the base of your spine. Try to spend about 5 minutes visualizing the flowers spinning and radiating stability, comfort, and safety. Watch fear, negativity, and everything you and we don’t need fall away.

After a few minutes, rest your hands on your heart chakra and feel the corners of your mouth raise as you smile with a sense of security that you and the Earth are well.

  1. Work with affirmations

Affirmations are powerful chakra-balancing tools. Consciously repeating positive declarations while focusing on your base chakra helps you cement its natural power to ground you and make you safe..Affirmations also have the added benefit of rewiring your brain. Chronic negative thoughts (“This world is insane — we’ll never have equality,” “The virus is still rampant — it’ll never go away,” etc.) are not only symptoms of an unbalanced base chakra, they can also add to stress and blockages. Productive affirmations help you more easily replace fear-focused thoughts with love-focused thoughts. To use the following affirmation, meditate on your base chakra, and either out loud or in your mind, repeat the words:

I am safe, secure, and deeply rooted to the world. I belong here.

Repeating this affirmation throughout the day will help you feel protected and secure. Write it down and post it on your mirror, refrigerator, or dashboard. Another idea is to set reminders on your phone to repeat the affirmation every couple hours. You can even write it down on a slip of paper you tuck under your pillow at night. Let its power seep into your sleep and dreams. After all, your sleep connects you to Spirit, which, like the Earth, is always there to nourish you.
  1. Play With Color

A simple way to restore your base chakra’s balance is to use color. Red is the color of your first chakra, so wear more red. Incorporate ruby hues into your home environment — get a red lampshade, pull out that red blanket for a cozy nap, or paint your living room a warm, deep red. Wear a garnet ring, a coral necklace, write with a burgundy pen. Sprinkle rose petals in your bath water, paint your nails the color of red wine, try a bright red lipstick, trade in your yellow tea kettle for a red one. The important thing is to consciously work with the red items you choose, linking them with your base chakra. To do this, just repeat the affirmation to seal the connection.
  1. Eat Healing Base-Chakra Foods

Since your base chakra is all about grounding you to the Earth, adding root vegetables to your diet can help strengthen your connection to the physical world. For an easy, delicious grounding meal, try roasting any of the following with salt and olive oil: beets, rutabagas, potatoes, garlic, ginger, turnips, onions, parsnips. If you eat meat, earthy stews and bone broths can be very nourishing for your base chakra. Don’t forget about grains like oats, mineral drops from the Great Salt Lake or elsewhere, red fruits like berries, or spices like paprika for extra flavor and rich, red goodness.Again, think of sending nourishment to your base chakra as you eat the healing foods. Perhaps include the affirmation in your prayers, thanking Mother Earth for sustenance. This will infuse the foods even more with nurturance for your base, filling you with a greater ability to thrive even in these times of tremendous transformation.

Feeling Rooted, Firm, and Secure in the World Is Your Birthright.

Always remember that it’s natural for your base chakra and ALL your chakras to be in a state of balance. It can take a short time or a while to restore that natural balance — depending on a lot of factors. No matter what, you deserve to experience the safety, security, vitality, and JOY that comes from practicing these exercises. As you spend more time grounding yourself in your base chakra and that of the Earth, you’ll begin to develop a deeper feeling of security on this beautiful planet that’s been troubled for a long time, but is rife with potential.

Your root base chakra is only the beginning of your journey. And these practices are only a tiny taste of the actions you can take in order to change the course of your life. As you go on your healing journey, you can find yourself uncovering your life’s true purpose. But it takes work. And that work is best done in a community of like-minded healers and seekers.

Are Your Genes Who You Are?

Or are you much more than just a biological entity?

Everywhere you look these days, there is a new study coming out on how your inherited genes affect your health (and everything else). Ever since the human genome was sequenced (the human genomic project was completed in April 2003), there has been a huge surge in research based on the information carried by genes, from how you look in your jeans to your propensity for becoming an alcoholic or coming down with a rare disease. These little packages of DNA have been given a god-like place in our understanding of who we are.

Just a few short years ago, a diagnosis of cancer took you straight to Western medicine’s tool bag, which held only three major tools: surgery, chemo, and radiation. If cut-poison-burn didn’t work, you were left with alternative approaches that weren’t covered by insurance. (I’m not knocking Western medicine, just the limited technologies and the limitations of our present health care system.)

But things are changing. Today there is personalized medicine available in cancer treatment, based on your genetic makeup and the composition of the tumor. It’s a giant leap beyond the standard “one size fits all.”

There are other emerging scientific fields that are looking at your genes for other reasons, like nutrigenomics, which is aiming to reveal the connections between specific nutrients and diets, genetic expression, and your health. Soon you may be able to find out why you can’t tolerate bread or cheese while your sibling practically lives on pizza. Diabetes, Alzheimer’s, autism, longevity, digestive disease, cardiovascular disease, all sorts of cancers, obesity, even tooth decay are all being examined in light of an individual’s DNA.

It’s an exciting time to be checking up on the latest scientific research.

Even spirituality has gotten into the gene pool, with the idea that one particular gene, called MVAT2 (vesicular monoamine transporter 2, the “god gene”) is what turns a person inward towards mystical experiences.

And more and more, science is finding what deep meditators have known all along: it’s all one. The hip bone isn’t just connected to the thigh bone; everything in your body is connected to everything else. The way genes express themselves can affect myriad pathways in the body.

The genes you inherited from your biological mother and father, the life factors that have turned some genes on and turned others off, the interlocking connections between how gene expression affects different bodily systems—all this is being looked at through the lens of science, which is beginning to understand the reality and importance of a holistic approach to health.

But before we begin to think that genes are the be-all and end-all of who we are, remember that genes don’t explain the mystery of life itself, and who we really are. Your genetic makeup is the blueprint for your biology, but sages, shamans, and healers who work with energy medicine know that who we are isn’t based on physical matter, like genes, but on spirit.

This is the truth taught by the Vedas, and by all the ancient spiritual traditions—the body you inhabit in the three-dimensional physical world is not the whole of you, but merely a vehicle used by your Higher Self in order to experience the lessons that are to be learned in this lifetime.

Spirit, consciousness, or whatever term you want to use, is what permeates all life. You can’t smell it or taste it, you can’t use your physical senses to capture it, but you know when you are connecting to it. It may be when you’re out in nature and the quiet and peacefulness or the grand vistas and raw beauty elevate your consciousness, relax your rampant thoughts, and you touch that place of expansiveness and peace within yourself.

t may happen when you’re having sex or in nature or having an out-of-body experience. You may be sitting quietly at home, staring off into space, your mind a million miles away, when you are suddenly engulfed in light and you enter a state of inexplicable love. That’s not genetics; that’s grace.

So learn all you can about new genetic research in the areas that affect your life, but remember, whether your genetics turn on or off does not determine who you are at heart, in your soul, and at the very deepest level of your being.

The Cycle of Light and Dark

I wake in the early morning hours, when I can still see the stars, to bring in the light of day with meditation. It has always been important, in all the ancient spiritual traditions, to greet the dawn of a new day, to give praise for having come through the darkness yet again.

The ancient Egyptians believed the Sun God, whom they called Amun-Ra, created and then sustained life itself, and ruled as the first king of Egypt. Each day Ra arose as a beautiful child, climbed into a boat and swept across the sky. At the zenith of the day, high noon, he was at the height of his manhood and strength. By late afternoon, he was exhausted, and by sunset he was a feeble old man. At night, he entered another boat and the gods took him through the 12 perilous provinces of the underworld, the hours of the night, when the serpent monster of darkness threatened to swallow him in his weakened state. Somehow, Ra always survived the battles of the night and emerged once more into the brilliant light of a new day. Praise be!

If you look at the cycles of your life, they are much the same as Ra’s daily journey. You come through whatever darkness strikes at your heart—whether that’s depression, or illness, or financial difficulties, or any distress or unhappiness—and, with the help of energy medicine, are born again into the light of day, where you grow stronger in wisdom and inner illumination as you get more connected to your inner Sun, your Higher Self.

In the cycle of light and dark, the dark symbolically evokes negativity and the unknown, while light conveys the positive aspects. The Bible is full of light as the symbol of divine presence and salvation. Jesus became the “light of the world,” while Satan, originally an angel of light, became the prince of evil and darkness and ruled the underworld.

But many thousands of years ago, the Vedic seers in ancient India saw the cycle of light and dark in a much “bigger picture” way—as a vast cycle of time, a great spiral of creation that brings mankind and our planet close to the source of light, then we move farther away into the darkness, and finally return to the light again in great cycle composed of four yugas (great ages). These ages are based on the movement of our solar system within our galaxy—a 12,000-year “descending” time period when our solar system is moving away from the galaxy’s center of magnetism and the strongest light, and 12,000 “ascending” years when our solar system slowly returns to the point closest to the “central sun.”

Stay with me. I know this may seem complicated, but it’s worth understanding because it relates directly the spiritual awakening that is happening these days.

The four yugas are: the Satya yuga, the Golden Age with its direct perception of spiritual truth; the Treta yuga, when spiritual perceptions are less clear; the Dwarpara yuga, when humankind is focused on conquering space and electrical energies; and the infamous Kali yuga, when humanity is not able to perceive anything beyond the physical, material universe.

According to some modern spiritual teachers, well-versed in astronomy and mathematics, we started to cross the threshold into the ascending Dwarpara yuga around 1700 AD, the beginning of the Age of Enlightenment, and now we are finally starting to come out of the Kali yuga, which darkened humanity’s knowledge for 2,400 years. It’s the journey to more light, more consciousness, and more awakened beings on the planet.

If you’ve wondered why you have a certain pull towards spirituality now, why teachings about energy medicine are starting to enter mainstream awareness, and why so many of the patriarchal beliefs and institutions that came out of a Kali yuga mentality are now crumbling before our eyes, it’s because we are on the path back to the light. Sort of like Amen-Ra, we are waking up as children of the light. We’re taking our first steps into higher consciousness, or we’re here to guide others along in their awakening process. Enlightened beings, after all, are those who have merged with the light.

As we leave the Summer Solstice behind us, it’s a good time to think about these cycles, what season comes next, and what part we can each play individually to bring the world closer to harmony, balance, and enlightenment over time.

While it may not seem like it, this is the general trend of the world (although sometimes it’s two steps forward, one step back). But we each have a part to play to make it so.

What will be your part?

If you have a hard time answering this question, consider joining our flagship Level I program, which provides an introduction and base for LifeForce Energy Healing.

More Ways than 1 to Cultivate Your Inner Light: A Guide to Spiritual Splendor

Can you think of someone who radiates positivity? This doesn’t mean they are always happy, as life has its challenges. But do you know someone who responds to life’s curveballs with grace and love? Figures like Gandhi, Maya Angelou, and Mother Teresa faced adversity with forgiveness and compassion, becoming beacons of light that inspire the world.

The Light Inside of You

You have a light inside you, too. Whether it’s a flickering flame or a roaring bonfire, it’s there, waiting to be nourished and allowed to shine brightly. Those who seem happier and lighter have reached higher levels of awareness. In this expanded state, you realize our interconnectedness, allowing you to interact with the world thoughtfully and lovingly. This state of being is much more joyful than reacting from fear and defensiveness.

Spreading Love to All

In my travels meeting shamans, priests, monks, and other spiritual teachers, I’ve learned that experiencing the divine light, even momentarily, allows you to cultivate that light within. When you express this divine light through your thoughts and actions, it creates a ripple effect of love in the world.

Don’t Squelch Your Light!

Healing and enlightenment are intertwined. It’s challenging to reach expanded awareness if your energy field is blocked or your chakras are misaligned. Think of your chakras and energy field as a clear pool. When they aren’t functioning optimally, darkness spreads like ink in water, dimming your inner light. This is where energy healing comes in. By clearing blockages, you make space for the light to return.

Here are five tips to heal yourself and grow your inner light, leading to a more positive and fulfilling life:

  1. Have Fun

Joy is a powerful catalyst for bringing light into your life. Our fast-paced culture often overlooks the importance of fun. Schedule time to enjoy yourself. Read a good book, watch a movie, take a bubble bath, play games, or run with your dog. Whatever makes you smile and laugh, do it as often as possible. Joy is healing.

  1. Live Your Soul’s True Purpose

When you live your true purpose, you move further into the light. Finding your purpose feels like a key fitting into a lock, making each day a gift. If you haven’t found your purpose yet, you can discover it through meditation, working with a spiritual teacher, or personal reflection. People aligned with their true purpose often seem to glow from within.
  1. Be of Service

Serving others helps heal yourself. Giving and using your gifts for the greater good extends your energy and light beyond yourself, helping others and, in turn, illuminating you. Since we are all connected, the light you shine on others reflects back to you. Light brings more light.
  1. Practice Gratitude

Gratitude shifts your focus from what’s lacking to the abundance in your life. Keep a gratitude journal, noting things you’re thankful for each day. Express gratitude to those around you. This practice elevates your vibration and attracts more positive experiences.

  1. Cultivate Mindfulness

Being present in the moment helps you appreciate the beauty and joy around you. Practice mindfulness through activities like meditation, deep breathing, or mindful walking. Staying grounded in the present enhances your inner light.

By nurturing the light within you, it will grow so brightly that others will see it and be inspired. Living in light and positivity raises your vibration and helps elevate the vibration of the entire planet. Start today and let your inner light shine!

BONUS: Surround yourself with a community of like minded

You may have heard the phrase that you are the average of the 5 people that you spend the most time with. While 5 may not be the exact number, the concept holds true. You really do turn into the people that you spend the most time with. So you should pay attention and be conscious of who those people are, what they spend time thinking about and doing, what kind of energy they have…

And the best way to cultivate your inner light is to surround yourself with others that are focusing on doing the same.

Right now, the doors are open to our annual Master-in-Training program. A year-long program where you can heal from past traumas, unlock your innate gifts, and work towards becoming the person you were put on this earth to be. This program also offers you a chance to join a close-knit community of like-minded healers and seekers. People that are also cultivating their inner light.

We just held our Open House, earlier this week, where participants shared their own personal experiences from the program. And if you’re interested, you can watch it on demand right here >>

Connecting with Your Earth Star: Grounding for Spiritual Growth

Here we are, gathered in our love for our home, this beautiful planet Earth. Often, we find ourselves lost in thoughts about our daily tasks, personal struggles, or feelings of inadequacy. Today, let’s shift our awareness from ourselves to our Mother, the Earth, and recognize what she needs from us. It’s time to thank her for all she provides and offer ourselves as helpers in the great task of healing the world.

Sit quietly and connect to the nature around you. Can you hear the wind rustling the leaves outside your window? Do you smell the flowers on your altar? Can you feel your cat curled up beside you? Notice the sounds and sensations around you.

Now, turn your attention inward, to your center, to your heart chakra. Breathe gently in and out of your heart. Rest here as you start your journey deep into the earth.

Long ago, ancient peoples lived in harmony with the earth. They knew that Earth was a living, breathing being, just like them. There was no separation between the sacred and the secular; all life and creation were sacred. But over time, especially during the industrial revolution, we began treating Earth badly—polluting her soil, waters, and air, and exploiting her resources.

Breathe in the sorrow of what we have done to Earth. Connect to her suffering. Feel her pain.

In Judaism, there’s a concept called tikkun olam, which means “repairing the world.” According to the mystical tradition of the Kabbalah, God made the world but left it incomplete. Humans were meant to finish the creation, but instead, they sought to exploit every resource. This made the work of tikkun much harder. Every human being is called to help heal and restore the soul of the world.

To repair the world, we first need to repair our consciousness, to see the world and each other as Source intended. Breathe in a strong intention to be of service in helping to repair the world.

How can we help repair the world if we are not firmly grounded on the earth? Often in meditation, we focus upward to commune with Spirit, raising our energy out through the crown of the head. Today, we will travel in the other direction. It’s in the lower chakras, the feet, and below, where we need to connect with Earth’s energy.

The Earth Star chakra, located about 12-18 inches below our feet, is our key connection to Earth’s energy. Through this chakra, we put down roots into the earth’s core. This is the doorway that allows us to receive energy from the Earth and be supported by it.

The chakras in the soles of each foot allow energy to flow in and out. Visualize a cord of energy, like the roots of a tree, going down from the bottom of your feet and connecting to your Earth Star.

Feel your connection to the earth. Ground your energy by plugging into the Earth Star. Go deep below the crust of the earth, into the core, beneath the shifting tectonic plates, and the floor of the mighty oceans.

Ask Mother Earth to help you stay grounded and stable. Talk to her. Thank her. Honor her. Promise to help her by remembering to water your plants, hug trees, and listen to the messages she sends through the natural world. Remember this space, and tune into it whenever you feel ungrounded, flighty, or too much in your head.

Go into the darkness of the earth, its rich, nourishing soil, to reconnect with the parts of yourself you have tried to hide. Bow low before the powerful dark energies you have split off from. Now that your roots are planted in this nourishing earth, now that you are stable in your grounding, you can acknowledge what you have tried to hide, ignore, or pretend isn’t part of who you are.

You are light and dark, yin and yang, earth and sky, male and female. You are one with it all. There is only One. You are whole and holy. From this place of Oneness, you are now ready to repair the world.

May every day be a day to honor the Earth.

10 Ways to Cultivate Gratitude in Your Life

“God gave you 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say ‘thank you’?”
– William A. Ward

When you think of “gratitude,” what comes to mind? One of the most famous stories about gratitude is Oprah Winfrey’s gratitude journal. For ten years, Oprah wrote down five things she was grateful for each day—things that made her laugh, tasted wonderful, were beautiful, or made her heart sing. The result? Her life became incredibly full and exciting, leaving little time to keep up her journal.

Gratitude works like magic. The more you express it, the more you find to be grateful for. It’s nourishment for the soul, impacting your energy field and the world around you. In my experience as a spiritual teacher and energy healer, I’ve seen gratitude transform lives. When you understand its power, you’ll want to make it a central part of your life.

Gratitude is a powerful tool for creating the life you desire. It’s not just about being thankful for what you have but also about envisioning and being grateful for what you want, as if you already have it. This creates a powerful pull on the unseen forces of manifestation.

To make gratitude a habit, practice it regularly until it becomes your default mindset. Here are ten ways to build your gratitude practice and make it a healing part of your daily life:

  1. Grow Your Gratitude List

Take a few minutes each night to list your blessings, both large and small. Say them out loud if possible. For example, “I am grateful for my good health, a productive day at work, and a fun conversation with a friend.”
  1. Ask Yourself Key Questions

Every night, ask yourself, “What have I received today? What have I given to others today?” This simple review helps you recognize the good in your life and see whether you are sharing your gifts.
  1. Use the Power of Positive Affirmations

Daily affirmations like “I am loved just as I am” or “I am creative and impactful” help you wake up to your true nature and foster self-acceptance. Recognize yourself as a child of the Divine, and gratitude will naturally follow.
  1. Share Your Gratitude with Others

Encourage friends and family to keep their own gratitude lists and share them with each other. This practice can shift conversations from problems to positive experiences, fostering a more uplifting environment.
  1. Send a Thank-You Note Each Week

Turn your impulse to thank someone into action. Send a quick email or note to express your gratitude. This practice spreads good vibes to both the sender and the recipient.
  1. Keep a Gratitude Journal

Writing in a gratitude journal helps you keep track of your blessings and provides a space to reflect on your inner life and the events of your outer life. It can also help you find hidden blessings in challenges.
  1. Practice Mindfulness

Being present in the moment allows you to appreciate the beauty and joy in your surroundings. Practice mindfulness by focusing on your breath, observing nature, or savoring a simple activity.
  1. Volunteer Your Time

Helping others can boost your own gratitude. Volunteer at a local charity, help a neighbor, or support a friend in need. Acts of service can remind you of the abundance in your own life.
  1. Celebrate Small Wins Acknowledge and celebrate your small victories. Whether it’s completing a task or achieving a personal goal, recognizing these moments can enhance your sense of gratitude.
  1. Reflect on Challenges

Reflect on past challenges and how they have shaped you. Recognizing the growth and strength you gained from difficult times can increase your gratitude for the journey.

Gratitude transforms your attitude and opens your heart to the abundance around you. By incorporating these practices into your daily routine, you’ll cultivate a mindset of appreciation that can enhance every aspect of your life. Start today, and let gratitude become the foundation of your spiritual journey.

5 Essential Steps to Becoming an Energy Healer

As you look around our world today, what are the greatest needs you see?

People are fleeing from conflict, seeking safety, shelter, food, and medical care. Others are searching for employment, care, and education for their children, and most of all, hope.

At the same time, the natural world shows signs of incredible stress. Changes in terrain, weather, and plant and animal populations remind us that human stewardship of the earth is a sacred bond that must be honored.

There is no denying the work that needs to be done. Do you feel in your heart that you have a role to play in meeting these needs, in helping, nurturing, and healing the world?

You know you have gifts, you know you can help, but how exactly do you begin?

In fact, you are the starting point.

As Louise Hay reminds us, “the power is within you!” When you ask what you can do to create a life filled with love and a world filled with joy and peace, consider this: you have the right stuff, you have the connection, you have the gifts and talents to turn everything around. You have the power just because of who you are—a child of the Divine, a being of light here to heal, thrive, grow, and to make your own unique and amazing contribution.

If fear tries to tell you the world doesn’t need you, that you can’t make a difference, that no one can see your light, remember who you are. You have the power to clear the fear, heal the hurt, open the doors and windows of your soul to a bright new day. And what a blessing that will be for a troubled world depending on you to step forth into the light and join a healing community powered by love.

Never doubt the power of Source to help you along the path you were meant to follow.

Years ago as a twenty-something lawyer, I never would have guessed that I would end up as an energy healer and spiritual teacher, but here I am. My relationship with energy healing developed from my soul’s cry for wellness, knowledge, and purpose. First, I struggled to be healed. As I climbed the spiritual ladder, I discovered more and more wonders of the Source of All Being that were available to any heart filled with forgiveness, gratitude, and love. As I benefited from energy healing, I began using the same modality to help others. Today, as a teacher of energy medicine, I pass on the gift and work to grow the network of healing ever wider.

Could this be your path as well?

When you look at the needs of the world and yearn to be a force filled with healing love, you may have your answer. The first step on the path towards your calling as a healer begins with consciously deciding that you wish to devote your life to the healing of yourself and others. This basic generosity and nurturing nature are what brought you here. You are drawn to expand your spirit and tap into the healing power of unconditional love.

Here are five ways you can shift into a higher spiritual gear and accelerate your movement toward greater spiritual growth and the gift of healing that you are destined to share:

  1. Explore and Bring Forth Your Higher Self

The great philosophers of the ancient world advised students to “know thyself.” To know yourself, you must dwell in a mindset of self-reflection and self-understanding. Use your spiritual practices of meditation, prayer, and journaling to discover how you feel about everything that has occurred to you in the past and is happening to you right now.

There is nothing to criticize or judge; you simply want to know and understand your inner world. As you explore your beliefs and values, admit your mistakes and accept yourself with love, you free yourself from fear and negativity. You open the door to expressing your higher self and become the powerful being you were meant to be.

  1. Forgive Yourself and Grow in Compassion

Self-forgiveness plays a key role in your spiritual evolution and the ability to help others. The number one issue blocking your free access to the light of spirit is blaming yourself. It’s the biggest problem I find in working with others—human beings are just too hard on themselves! Therefore, in addition to recognizing and expressing your feelings honestly, the most powerful action you can take to grow in spirit is to accept and forgive your frailties. Accepting your humanness sets you free to give yourself the healing gift of compassion and unconditional love. As you grow in self-compassion, you free yourself to feel compassion for others and open your heart to the gifts of healing within.
  1. Build Your Connection to Source

Source is the wellspring of all the unconditional love, compassion, and healing light you are seeking. With a regular practice of connecting to Source, whatever that may mean for you—and without fear and negativity—you’ll find a sudden expansion of space for more light to come into your life. There’s enough room in you energetically for your higher-self qualities to be downloaded from the chakras above your head and come right into your energy field. The powerful gifts you always knew you had but couldn’t quite access will begin to manifest. Your strong connection to Source can help you become a vehicle for the higher qualities you need to follow your calling and become the powerful healer you are meant to be.
  1. Develop Your Intuitive Abilities

Enhancing your intuitive skills is crucial for energy healing. Practice listening to your inner voice through meditation and mindfulness exercises. Trust your instincts and allow them to guide your healing practices. As you become more attuned to your intuition, you’ll find it easier to sense the energies of others and know how to assist in their healing processes.
  1. Engage in Continuous Learning and Practice

Healing is a journey that requires ongoing learning and practice. Attend workshops, read books, and join healing communities to expand your knowledge and skills. Regularly practice energy healing techniques on yourself and others to refine your abilities. The more you learn and practice, the more effective you will become as an energy healer.

Getting in touch with your inner light will open the door to your higher self. Dedicated inner work is one of the primary ways you obtain your divine gifts. Your strong connection to Source helps you grow your intuition, knowledge, and understanding, and you start to experience the loving qualities of your true essence. Spiritual growth leads to inner peace, and from inner peace comes the power to create peace in the world along with the healing gifts you are here to share.

Rekindling Your Fire: 5 Ingenious Tips to Bounce Back from Burnout

Does your morning begin with a sigh? Do you rise with reluctance, a sense of uneasiness permeating your waking moments? Is it fear? Or dread?

If every day feels like a battle for survival, it’s time to step back and assess. This state of affairs isn’t your normal. It’s a sign of burnout.

Burnout is a slow, creeping darkness that gradually shrouds your spirit. It’s like a dying fire losing its warmth and light. When the fuel is gone, the fire dies. Those in the helping professions are particularly prone to this. Your calling to aid others can make you susceptible.

How well are you tending to your own needs? Is your inner light diminishing?

Your wellbeing lies in your hands. It’s your duty to nurture your mind, body, and spirit. When feelings of despair replace joy, love, compassion, and laughter, it’s time for a reset. Listen to your soul’s cry for healing and sanctuary. When burnout looms, your inner alarm will ring.

Here are 5 burnout signs to watch for, and some remedies:

  1. Are you feeling angry and bitter?
Lashing out at life and the people around you? Negative emotions can block your resilience. It’s time to uncover their source and heal. Journaling can help you process these feelings and restore balance.
  1. Feeling hopeless? Like there’s no light at the end of the tunnel? Consider this: is there someone facing more significant hurdles than you? How are they coping? Reach out to a 12-step program. Sharing with fellow travelers can kickstart your recovery.
  1. Are you constantly exhausted? Feeling numb and empty? Perhaps you’re not resting enough. Imagine a place where you can truly relax. Change your schedule to get more sleep. You’re worth it.
  1. Feeling out of sync? Has your life rhythm been disrupted? Meditation can restore your equilibrium.
  1. Do you feel trapped in a box? Has it been ages since you’ve felt the sun on your face? Fresh air and nature can work wonders. Step outside.

Remember, susceptibility to burnout isn’t a flaw. It shows that you’re living with awareness and an open heart. Burnout is common among those who love, give and serve.

The key is recognizing when your fire is dwindling and taking steps to refuel. Keep your light burning. Practice self-love and compassion. Seek balance and rest. Surround yourself with like-minded friends on a similar journey to wellbeing.

Meditation: Your Gateway to the Comfort of Home, Anywhere, Anytime!

You’ve heard it before – “Home is where the heart is.” That warm, comforting embrace when you walk through the door after a grueling day. Maybe it’s the ecstatic wag of your dog’s tail or your children’s eager hugs. Perhaps it’s the solitary serenity of your own space, where you can kick off your shoes, flick on the TV and unwind. That’s home, right?

Well, let’s flip the script a bit. Picture home not as a physical place, but a spiritual state you arrive at through meditation. It’s that familiar, comforting mental space you return to each dawn, surrendering to the gentle ebb and flow of energies cultivated through years of committed practice.

Ever landed in an unfamiliar locale, yet it feels like you’ve known it forever? The streets, the scent of the air, even the faces seem eerily familiar. A friend of mine had such an experience in the Himalayan foothills of India. A New Yorker by birth, she was worlds away from the urban jungle, yet she instantly felt a deep connection to a remote Indian village, as if she’d found her true ‘home’ on earth.

That’s exactly how I felt when I discovered the realm of meditation. An immediate sense of belonging, comfort, and security washed over me. A feeling akin to coming ‘home.’

As a spiritual guide, I often find my students pondering if they are in the ‘right’ place. Some remain in their ancestral homes, while others create their ‘home’ among friends, far from their families. They speculate if a change of location might improve their lives. And while a new job, social opportunities or a healthier climate might indeed be beneficial, I encourage them to first journey inward.

Meditation, you see, can be transformative – it can improve your health, alleviate stress and anxiety, even enhance your love life. With meditation, you carry ‘home’ within you, like a turtle with its shell. No matter where you are or who you’re with, you can retreat into this portable sanctuary to recharge, reconnecting with the profound sense of ‘home’ that exists within your Higher Self.

Celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres, Paul McCartney, Nicole Kidman and Jerry Seinfeld credit meditation for various aspects of their success and well-being. Jane Fonda attributes it to her graceful aging, while George Lucas even based Yoda, the wise sage of Star Wars, on a meditation practice founder.

So, if you yearn for that comforting embrace of ‘home,’ I invite you to embrace meditation. I offer a unique mantra meditation course to alleviate stress and boost your intuition. Embrace the power of inward journey and discover ‘home’ can be anytime, anywhere.

5 Steps to Following Your Bliss and Building a Better World

We’ve all heard Joseph Campbell’s wise words: “Follow your bliss!” But do you know what comes next? “Don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.”

This advice resonates deeply in my work as an energy healer and spiritual teacher.

When you tap into your bliss, you unlock the gifts you came into this world to give. And as you embrace these gifts, doors will open, guiding you toward a life of joy and purpose.

“Bliss” isn’t just a word—it’s a spiritual principle. It acknowledges your nature as an energy-based being, and embracing life’s challenges with joy is a key goal of your spiritual journey.

By pursuing happiness in every aspect of your life, you’ll enhance your well-being and connect with your life’s purpose. This bliss can act as a compass, guiding you on your path. But first, you must identify what makes you truly happy. Your spiritual practices—prayer, meditation, and journaling—can help reveal this inner joy.

Recognizing and embracing your happiness not only elevates your spirit but also clarifies the gifts you’re here to develop and share with the world.

Your bliss, in whatever form it takes, is likely intertwined with the well-being of others. When you engage fully—mind, body, and soul—you fulfill your life’s purpose, contributing to a better world.

Here’s how you can cultivate this path:

  1. Identify Your Gifts:

Your unique talents align with what brings you joy. These gifts are often skills you’re naturally good at, whether singing, playing an instrument, writing, or helping others. Recognizing these talents and embracing them wholeheartedly can guide you to a life of joy and contribution.
  1. Stay Connected to Source:

Strengthening your connection to a higher power helps you recognize and utilize your gifts. Through practices like prayer, meditation, yoga, or walks in nature, you draw closer to your bliss. These practices open you to divine connections, allowing you to recognize opportunities when they arise.
  1. Focus on Service:

Use your gifts to serve others, aligning with your spiritual path. Acts of service, no matter how small, help fulfill your purpose and reverberate through the web of life. Your joy adds to the spiritual energy of all things, creating a ripple effect that brings happiness to others.
  1. Embrace Inner Balance:

Recognizing your gifts and serving others can lead to balance in all areas of life. This equilibrium fosters a holistic sense of joy, improving not just your personal well-being but also the well-being of those around you.
  1. Share Your Symphony:

Your gifts are the music you’ve come into this world to play. Don’t keep your symphony under wraps; share it with the world. By doing so, you not only fulfill your purpose but also contribute to a more harmonious world for all.

In following these steps, you not only unlock your own bliss but also create a life of joy, balance, and service to others. Your unique contributions, driven by happiness, spread positive energy, uplifting yourself and the world around you.

A Celestial Metaphor for Nature’s Rebirth

Imagine the charm of April showers, a sweet prelude to the radiant beauty of May flowers. It’s the herald of spring, when the earth awakens, shedding off the icy blanket of winter. This is the enchanting tale behind the Native Americans’ naming of April’s full moon – the Pink Moon. Named for the blooming ground phlox, a mesmerizing pink floral carpet, the Pink Moon is an epitome of spring’s arrival. This year, it graces our skies tonight, April 23, a celestial spectacle promising a spiritual bouquet awaiting your discovery.

Spring’s first blooms, be it the shy crocus peeking through the snow or the vibrant daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths breaking free from the soil, are a sight to behold. The ground phlox, the Pink Moon’s namesake, symbolizes harmony and sweet dreams in the language of flowers. Spring’s blooms bring a surge of hope, sweetness, and a sense of endless possibilities. Do you have a favorite blossom?

Embrace the spirit of the Pink Moon. Embark on a nature walk to a place that captures your heart. As you stride, immerse yourself in the unique beauty of your surroundings. Explore the plants, trees, flowers, and rocks that you’ve noticed but never truly appreciated. Focus on their light, color, shape, or the unique feeling they evoke. If there’s a flower, unravel its beauty from within, much like the renowned artist Georgia O’Keeffe. Be mindful of the buzzing bees, the unsung heroes of plant pollination. Observe the birds and animals around you. Could their presence signify something?

Savor the natural beauty, thanking your senses that allow you to experience nature in its full glory. You’re an intricate part of this creative universe. As the Pink Moon approaches, contemplate on how to infuse joy and purpose into your life. Each moon cycle signifies the passage of time, and the Pink Moon marks a new beginning. It’s a fresh start for any dream, endeavor, or personal growth you’ve been pondering upon.

To prepare for the next chapter, here are three introspective questions:

What do you know?
Dive deep within yourself. What are your strengths and abilities? What are your heart’s desires, life’s purpose, and core values?

What do you want to know?
Are your actions aligning with your life’s purpose? What are the challenges you wish to overcome, and what are the skills or knowledge you desire?

Who can you ask?
Where do you seek wisdom and spiritual guidance? Where do you find solace? Do you call upon divine help, friends, family, spiritual teachers, or nature’s energy?

Answering these questions will connect you to your higher self, leading to self-discovery, peace, joy, and a sense of limitless possibilities.

May the Pink Moon illuminate your journey to self-awareness, celebrating the miracle of being you. May its healing radiance bless you on this evening of April 23, 2024.

5 Tips to Rev Up Your Sex Life This Spring

“In the spring a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love.”~ Alfred Tennyson

As spring blooms, it naturally invites a renewal of energy, including in our intimate relationships. The season, vibrant with life, often stirs a desire to deepen connections and revitalize our love lives. Inspired by nature’s reawakening, here are five practical tips to enhance your intimate experiences, blending holistic wellness with heartfelt connection.

  1. Focus on Emotional Intimacy

Start with building a strong emotional foundation. Open and honest communication with your partner creates trust and deepens emotional connections, which are crucial for a fulfilling sex life. Discuss your desires, fears, and boundaries openly. This transparency fosters intimacy, making physical connections more profound and satisfying.
  1. Energize Your Second Chakra

The second chakra, centered around the pelvic area, governs our sexual energy and creative potential. Engage in activities that stimulate this chakra such as yoga, dancing, or energy healing focused on this energy center. A balanced second chakra enhances physical pleasure and emotional receptivity, enriching your intimate encounters.
  1. Cultivate Heart Chakra Openness

A vibrant fourth chakra enhances the ability to give and receive love freely. Practices like caring for pets and wildlife, volunteering, or simply engaging in acts of kindness can open your heart. An open heart chakra invites deeper connections, paving the way for a more affectionate and spiritually connected sex life.
  1. Prioritize Self-Care

Your relationship with yourself sets the tone for your relationship with others. Invest time in self-care practices that make you feel good about yourself, whether it’s a fitness routine, skincare regimen, or hobbies that spark joy. Feeling good about yourself boosts confidence, which is inherently attractive and invigorating to your sex life.
  1. Explore New Experiences Together Breaking out of routine can reignite passion. Plan a getaway, try a new hobby, or explore new experiences together in the bedroom. New activities stimulate the brain’s reward centers, increasing dopamine levels, which heighten attraction and excitement between partners.

By embracing these practices, you not only revitalize your sex life but also enrich your overall emotional and spiritual connection with your partner. Spring is the perfect time to explore these dimensions, inviting a season of growth and deeper fulfillment.
