Throughout much of India, Jyotish (the Indian term for Vedic Astrology) is an accepted science and part of the mindset and lifestyle of countless individuals.

HOW VEDIC ASTROLOGY DIFFERS FROM WESTERN ASTROLOGY
In western astrology — which you’ll find in North American and European newspapers, magazines, and online — planetary positions are measured according to a belt of stars known as the western zodiac. Western astrology uses the season-based tropical zodiac, which puts the first day of spring around March 21st no matter where the sun actually is in relation to Earth and the other planets on that day.
In sharp contrast, Vedic Astrology relies on the sidereal zodiac, which more precisely measures the readily observable astronomical positions of planets. In the sidereal zodiac, the sun’s entrance into Aries is marked by the movement of our nearest star (the sun) through the observable fixed stars of the constellation of Aries.
Two thousand years ago, the two zodiacs precisely overlapped, so there was no problem determining where each human stood astrologically. Today, there is almost an entire zodiac sign of positional change between them.
